Civil Engineering: RED7 Undertakes Bridge Strengthening Scheme

Red7 Inshore Diving Ltd were contracted to complete strengthening of a road bridge in South Norfolk to re-instate the bridge weight limit 45t, having been downgraded to 3.5t. The weight restriction was problematic to local road users and especially local farmers and agricultural contractor sunable to utilise the road.
The project consisted of:

  • Installation of temporary propping within the brick arch culvert to eliminate risk of movement both during removal of material around the brick arch and also during placement of new mass concrete fill
  • Excavation from each side of the arch simultaneously was required to ensure even loading on the structure
  • Arch waterproofing
  • Supply and installation of twin steel reinforcing cages
  • Simultaneous concrete pours
  • Installation and compaction of fill material

Careful planning for logistics and material deliveries was required to work around limited site access and traffic manage-ment restrictions however the team delivered the works within the time and budget required. This is another great exam-ple of the non-marine civils works the Red7 team can deliver.
